As you may know, Wheat Ridge Ministries, which hosted WeRaise.us, is now We Raise Foundation! Along with this exciting new repositioning come some exciting changes to our crowdfunding platform.

Crowdfunding with We Raise Foundation is now specifically available only to our GrantsPlus Grant recipients. In addition to grant funding, these organizations receive hands-on coaching as they build an incentivized crowdfunding campaign, eligible for up to $20,000 in additional funding.

Finding a platform that best fits your project will take a little research. When learning about various platforms, here are a few key things to keep an eye out for:

  • Fees & Payment Processing: Be sure to understand the fees associated with the platform, as well as their reputation for security. They should use a secure payment processor, like WePay.
  • Data Captured: Find out what kind of information you receive about your donors when the campaign ends, make sure you’ll get contact information for follow-up. A number of platforms, such as Kindful and Classy, also act as a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) database, which could be a helpful reporting resource long-term.
  • Campaign Types: There are a variety of online fundraising options, from a simple donation form to a network of peer-to-peer campaigns. Determine the kinds of campaigns your organization may be interested in over the next five years, so you can pick a long-term solution.
  • Reputation & Security: Review a site’s track record with the Better Business Bureau and look at other organizations using the site. Read the privacy and security policy and make sure you feel comfortable with how data from your organization and donors is stored.
    • Tip: Look for the padlock icon in the url/address bar which indicates a secure page.
  • Customer Service: Technology is wonderful, but can be unpredictable. Research the customer service for the platform, including how to report errors and if support chat is available.
  • Other Solutions: You may not need a separate crowdfunding platform to accomplish your fundraising goals. Research plugins or upgrades directly to your website, and consider fundraising via social media (such as Facebook).
