Immanuel Lutheran School in Brookfield, WI educates over 300 children in the love of Jesus Christ and knowledge of the world God created for us. Immanuel students gather in worship every week and take time daily for Bible study, prayer, and experiencing God's grace. The children are ages 3-14, up through 8th grade.

As Immanuel has grown in the number of students and the grades are doubling in size, the cost of textbooks, workbooks and Bible study material has also grown. The annual budget for these items has exceeded $20,000. We are asking for your help.

Money raised in the “Buy the Book” campaign will be used to purchase textbooks for the coming school year. The cost for textbooks for the school last year was $22,000. This year we anticipate a $20,000 expense to replace workbooks, purchase replacement science equipment, and buy textbooks for a second 4th grade class.

Over the past six years, the enrollment at Immanuel has been growing so that classes have doubled in Kindergarten through third grade. Next year there will be two fourth grade classes. Desks and chairs have been purchased. Now we are looking forward to purchasing textbooks for the additional classroom. The cost for the 4th grade books is $7500.

Beginning May 5 with VIP Day, a campaign will be launched to collect donations to cover the cost of textbooks, workbooks and Bible study material for Immanuel students. The first $7500 raised will go toward the purchase of books for the additional 4th grade classroom opening in the fall. Throughout the month of May donors will be able to give to the “Buy the Book” campaign on the Wheat Ridge website.

A drawing will be held every Friday in May for a Kindle Fire, and a drawing of the first 50 donors will win a Chromebook. Other prizes can be won on behalf of Immanuel students. Parents who share the Facebook post from the Immanuel Facebook page will win a coupon for their son or daughter for a popsicle at lunch. One donation given in a student’s name will earn him or her a Hat Day coupon. Students who receive five donations will get a silicone Immanuel bracelet. Ten donations will mean a coupon for a video game party with the principal, Mrs. Wallace. Students will get a t-shirt for race day if 15 donations are given in their name. The 50 students who have the highest donations given in the name of those students will get to play in a dodgeball game in front of the whole school.

“Buy the Book” will culminate in a Race for Education on May 26, when Immanuel students will run laps around the school with music playing and parents will be invited to watch the race. Students will earn a rubber bracelet for every lap run. At the end of the race teachers will spray color on the runners to celebrate a race well run.

Big Changes

Immanuel has seen tremendous change over the past ten years. In 2010 school enrollment was 159 students. Today over 300 students attend Immanuel. Next fall about 350 children will be immersed in God’s Word every day. Research says that the belief system is set in people by the age of 12. This is not to discount the work of the Holy Spirit, but when children grow up in the Christian faith, nurtured by teachers and lived by parents, lives are changed for eternity. Immanuel is about to double the middle school grades. Children learn a lot about who they are in junior high. They begin to question their parents, teachers and others in authority and they reflect on what they have learned with discernment. This is an important time for students to be surrounded by people who can help them interpret the world around them and the emotions inside them. Strength comes from a firm foundation and a strong footing is found in the truth of God’s Word.

Stretch Goals

Stretch Goal #1 $10,690

The first $7500 raised through “Buy the Book” will be used to purchase textbooks and materials for the new 4th grade classroom at Immanuel. After that initial amount is collected, other funds will be used to buy textbooks for the rest of the school. The total textbook budget for the 2017-18 school year is $22,000. Last year the Race for Education brought in over $12,000. Hopefully the online campaign this year will do even better to raise the needed funds for textbooks for Immanuel students.
