Ministry Leader Sabbatical
I have served as a pastor for over 20 years, with 12 of them as pastor of First Lutheran Church, Lodi, WI. Over the past 17 months, I have remained with First Lutheran during a very challenging transitional time. Both the Congregation Council and the Mutual Ministry teams have affirmed the timing and need for this Spiritual Renewal Sabbatical. I look forward, along with the leadership of First Lutheran, to the future God is creating for us.
During my sabbatical, I plan to spend 2-3 weeks on an extended hiking and camping trip on the Superior Hiking Trail in Northern Minnesota, as well as hiking several segments of the Ice Age Trail throughout Wisconsin. I will also take time for an extended kayaking trip along the Namakagon River in Northern Wisconsin with my wife and 5 daughters.
Funds raised will be used for expenses incurred for these experiences. I am confident that this investment will be deeply meaningful and will promote the renewal needed to continue fruitful ministry in the future.
The intention of this sabbatical time is for cultivating renewed health and vitality for the sake of improving my leadership in a local congregation. The rest and refreshment I experience through the sabbatical will have a direct, positive effect on the missional energy and focus of First Lutheran Church.
June 15-30 -- Superior Hiking Trail Trip
July 3-14 -- Namakagon River Kayak Trip
Various dates (Early June, Late July) -- Ice Age Trail hiking
August 13-19 -- Pilgrimage to Northeast US (Stretch goal)
Remaining connected to important family members is a value I hold, and would be very glad to have the opportunity to spend time investing in these familial relationships. My siblings and other extended relatives live in various places in the Northeast (Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island), so a goal would be for our family to travel there for time with them.
